The Friends group encourages everyone to help with projects in the park by taking part in the volunteer days for a few hours whenever they can. This can be hard work and not everyone is able to contribute in this way, but the work done by volunteers is invaluable and of tremendous benefit to the community.
People volunteer for a number of different reasons, ranging from a desire to learn new skills, have fun or make a difference. Some are completely devoted to the cause, while others simply wish to do their bit where they can. It’s a great opportunity to learn some practical conservation skills, find out more about the local wildlife and just get outside in the fresh air!
One of the more obvious reasons why people volunteer is because they find something they are passionate about and want to do something good for for the evironment. People who volunteer in their community have a personal attachment to the area and want to make it a better place for themselves and for others.
Many people choose to volunteer simply for the pride that comes from completing a project and the pleasure they find in a sense of accomplishment. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, everything from bird hide building to path clearing.
The day will run from 10am – 3pm but don’t worry if you can't make it for the whole day. If you can spare any time from half an hour to the whole day on the dates below, your time and efforts will be greatly appreciated. You can just turn up on the day or you can call 0845-456-2796 for further details.
Refreshments will be provided, but don’t forget to bring some lunch along and plenty to drink. Come dressed in old clothes you don’t mind getting torn or dirty, sturdy shoes or wellies and be prepared for the weather!

Air Cadets Get Involved
A group of nine air cadets from 94 (Feltham) Squadron, Air Training Corps are involved in volunteer work at Bedfont Lakes as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Matthew contacted us in January to ask if this would be possible and the management arranged for the cadets to work for a few hours once a month on a Saturday. The cadets will be helping for up to six months, depending on which badge they are doing. Matthew is thoroughly enjoying the work and has sent us a report and some photos.
See Matthew's report here.
